Other Options...

You could also wire in RCA jacks as well. It is your car.

I hope this has helped you in your quest to add an AUX in on your RX-300.

Note on how to wire it in:

The data flows for the wires that you are splicing are coming from the CD player to the blue connector. The Blue connector goes to the pre-Amp.

Basically looking at the wire diagram for the DPDT switch, you would put the wires from the connector on the left side and the top right add your mp3 and the second set is your CD player.

Here Chris Santaniello added a dual MP3 and Satellite FM rocker switches and mounted the box at the bottom of the console.

That is all there is to It! Enjoy!

DPDT Switches and other options

* OK, Here is where I’ll leave it up to you. You now have many different options to choose from as to how to tap into this.

What I did was to take a stereo headphone extension jack and wired it to the pins above. I left it the wires connected so I can use the CD Too. The only problem with this is the CD Audio will play through at the same time as your MP3…. However I got around that by making a CD track that plays nothing and setting it to RPT(keep repeating the same track).

What I recommend is to cut the wires and add a double pull double throw switch so when you press the CD selection on the console you’ll have the choice by using your switch to hear the CD or your MP3.

Stop by Radio Shack, they have many different type switches available like this slide switch or this push button type.

Pin outs

The wires that you will be splicing are on the back of this connector “IK1” and are as follows:

PIN

Wire COLOR

NAME

2

White

Right Sig

3

Red

Right Gnd

10

Green

Left Sig

11

Black

Left Gnd

Please verify that the wire colors and the Pin numbers match up before you splice any wires. Also, you will be reading the connector’s mirror image from the connector drawing I listed previously.

This is the connector harness IK1.

This is the connector harness IK1:Note: I found this connector figure on line. Mine was blue…
2) The connector is easily pulled apart by depressing the tab on the bottom of the connector and pull at the same time ( the drawings are upside down).

RX-300 Passenger's view

This is what it looks like now sitting in the passenger’s seat.
Now the cable we are after is located on the middle right side.

Note: I found this connector figure online and it should say IK1.

Of coarse the real thing did not look like exactly this. You will see the connector in its bracket like this:On my RX-300 it’s the blue connector (Above the green tape. Not the blue thing on the right of the green tape).

Just pop off the harness at the clips.A closer Look...That’s it 4 bolts and you removed it.

Disclaimer...

This is where you can plug any audio device that has a headphone jack and play it through your RX 300 Lexus audio system. The quality of the sound is perfect. You don't have to waste money on the FM transmitters or the clunky cassette tape hook ups. Those devices can't come close the frequency response of having a direct line to you audio system.

I was able to do this installation in less than 2 hours.

This document is for your reference only and that I am in no way liable for any mistakes, damage or problems that might occur if and when you decide to use this procedure. This is not a professional procedure but it worked for me on my 2001 RX-300. There is no guarantee that every RX-300 will be identical. Use it at your own discretion.

(Disclaimer)

Step 1:

Attention: Do not have the key in the ignition when attempting this. Also, to be on the very safe side you could remove the positive connector from the battery until you are done.

1) Remove the Glove Compartment SECTION.

I circled the bolts to remove in the following pictures. When these bolts are removed the assembly that houses the glove compartment is easily removed.

You will need to un-snap a wire that is connected to the top of the glove section.

To get to the bottom bolt you can pop out the glove compartment stop (see the red arrow) so that it hangs down. This should give you enough clearance to remove it.

End Results

After completing the steps you will have an additional (headphone) jack located on the floor between the two front seats.
